Just as you get your eyes and hearing checked to keep them optimally working for you, it’s important to do regular maintenance on your intuition. Like a radio antenna, your intuition system allows you to tune into and receive important information. Creating awareness around what your intuition has to offer, what it’s saying, and how it speaks to you gives you powerful opportunities to apply it to everyday life. As I mentioned in my previous blog, What Blocks Intuition? it’s a powerful perception tool that can be used to gather information, create awareness, come into alignment, create boundaries, keep you safe, and aid in decision-making.
Here are just a few tips to keep your intuition system running optimally. This is not a one-size-fits-all. First, you have to decide what feels best. Then you must practice, sometimes daily, to strengthen this part of you.
Meditation/Visualization – For many of us when we meditate it relaxes the mind and nervous system. Relaxing is a key component in the upkeep of intuition. There are also positive effects on the brain, like an increase in grey matter, which allows electrical impulses to pass through your brain more easily for enhanced cognitive, emotional, and intuitive agility. There are many different kinds of meditative practices like visualization or journeying, mindfulness, breathwork, and stillness.
Letting go of ego – Your ego is what identifies you as self. Your identity and what supports your identity. When you let go of who you believe you are for even just a moment, it opens up other possibilities of who you could be or actually are as a person. There can be an adventurous unfolding of your authentic self and an unshackling of limiting beliefs, including what your parents and outside sources defined you as. As you let go of that sludgy ego, you may find more intuitive fluidity. This doesn’t mean that you are to try to get rid of ego. It's here for a purpose.
Experimentation – You can view intuition is a muscle. You’ll need to exercise it for it to become strong. So, it’s time to go to the intuitive gym! Trial and error (AKA practice and failure) will be your best friend, especially when it’s uncomfortable. It’s one of the most active and committed things you can do to unblock your intuition. This might mean practicing with a friend or family member or in a workshop like my playshop Your Great Awakening! Many people find a resonant modality they can practice with like Tarot Cards, Intuitive Reiki, using a pendulum, or simply sitting quietly with a trusted friend and mentioning the first things that enter the mind without judgment.
Kundalini Yoga – The most energy-shifting yoga experiences I’ve had were in Kundalini Yoga classes, which involve repetitive moments, chanting, singing, and breathwork. It was incredibly meditative and in those moments of rest, I could feel an intense expansion. Kundalini Yoga moves and unblocks stagnant energy. Studies show it also can release the “feel good” neurotransmitters and support the nervous system.
Practice allowing - This simply means you aren’t hyperfocusing and you aren’t resisting. Questioning an old belief system is great. You’re allowed to change your mind and grow, but do your best not to constantly question or judge the process of intuition and how you receive information. This is resistance. Simply allow the information to come through in the way it does without judgment or resistance by relaxing the mind. If you’re uncertain how your intuition speaks, consider researching claircognizance, clairvoyance, clairsentience, clairaudience, clairalience, and clairgustance.
Spend time in nature – Consider yourself a lightning rod. Energy enters you and it can either stop with you or pass through you. Spending time in nature allows you to ground yourself and may help with emotional regulation. Because of the function of our survival brain, intense emotions block intuition. Grounding can help move that energy through the body and into the earth. Next time you feel chaotic, take your shoes off and plant them on the ground. Breath in and imagine that chaotic energy moving through you and into the earth. Remember to experiment with all parts of your energy, not just intuition.
Give yourself permission – Giving yourself permission to be intuitive, to be bold, to practice, and to not get it right (fail) is one of the most loving and compassionate things you can do to strengthen your intuition. You’re giving yourself permission to grow, exactly what you’re meant to do here. It isn’t about being right. It’s about your journey of living a connected life. Give yourself permission to take a journey with all the messiness and magic it has to offer.
I hope this was helpful. If you haven’t already, read What Blocks Intuition? for more helpful tips. My purpose is to help people understand all that they have to offer in this lifetime and intuition can be a powerful offering. My wish for you is to step into this aspect of you that may be weak, dulled, ignored, or abused in some way.
